About Us

Training humans and dogs to live, work and play together fairly, with respect and love.

Cartrell "Daryl" Cooper is the owner and lead trainer of Big D's Dog Training. Based in Minnesota, Cooper has over 52 years of experience training dogs and has trained dogs for law enforcement, military, and private individuals.  Specializing in obedience, behavior modification, field and service dog training, Cooper's effective and compassionate training methods build confident and resilient dogs for their owners.

At a very early age, Cooper's love of dogs led him on a journey that started as a third grader winning his third grade science fair with his first dog Munica, to achieving the honor of distinguished honor graduate for duty and performance from the USAF Canine Academy, the only handler to receive the honor in the 100 year history of the program. Throughout his career in dog training, Cooper's unique methodology has been featured in publications around the country.

His motto, "small to tall we train them all" speaks volumes about his versatility and intuitive approach to understanding each dogs training needs and his ability to generate a successful plan for them.

Success Stories

'...Anyone who as ever met my dog, trained by Cooper, overwhelmingly comments on his superior training (service dog,) and his overall relaxed demeanor.  Cooper has extensive knowledge of dogs ans dog behavior..."

"...Cooper has shown my Irish Water Spaniel, Ch. Realta's Marvelous Adventure, R.N., ACT2, ACTJ2, CGC, to his AKC championship and is now very close to finishing his Grand Championship as well.  I have observed him in action both in and out of the ring. He is an excellent handler with a good eye for the minute differences that make one dog a more win-worthy contender in the ring than another, and has a good grasp of the various AKC breed standards. He is also invariably kind, gentle, and firm with the dogs. Perhaps more importantly, he is also good with people, with a quick smile and a relaxed, friendly demeanor that immediately puts others at ease. Cooper takes a "do the right thing" approach to his work, not only modeling adherence to the written rules of dog showing and demonstrating good sportsmanship at all times, but also being mindful of the unwritten rules of kindness and thoughtfulness as well."
